A Long Overdue Post
Long time since I've blogged. Really long time, but I'm kind of lazy to go check the date of my last post so that I can add a "3 months ago" or something here, so if you're interested you can do the date subtraction yourself. =)
Strange that I haven't blogged... Isn't that there's been nothing to write about, moreso rather that I just haven't been in the mood. In that way I suppose it's good, because at times I've also been too busy to blog. Let's take last week for example...
Last week was pretty fun, Monday to Thursday I was working at Nanyang Audi with the Ntu Alumni Club giving out survey forms to the grads. Evidently the club was working with some head-hunting firm to find jobs for the grads, but they were also giving away a free 2 month membership, WHICH, I might add, was probably the main reason for their booth. Cos I mean, they didn't seem to mind if people just wanted the membership and didn't want to do the survey. Oh well, I wouldn't expect anything less from any organisation. Although I was thinking, with the number of grads there, how was one company going to find jobs for all of them? I really hope very few of them are hoping for proper job placement from them, otherwise if they stay home waiting for calls they're going to be sorely disappointed... At least, throughout the course of work, I learnt lots of stuff. Like... How much your feet hurt standing from 9-5, why you shouldn't watch soccer the morning before work, and other useful information like that. =p But all in all I guess it was pretty fun. Julian (our supervisor) also said we could pop by the club to use their facilities as and when we felt like it, just give him a call... Maybe one day I'll take him up on that offer, but for now I don't think I really wanna travel to Buona Vista to use the pool/gym/wadever, especially during these 2 months where all the grads have free access and I predict it'll be slightly more crowded than usual...
Everyday since last Saturday till this Sunday was band prac day! Yup, very tiring... But still I think it was worth it, since I happen to like playing. Oh that reminds me, during one sectional day with the Mus'art trombones, a flowerpot landed on Wilson's car. Yes, ouch... Evidently someone threw it from the 7th floor, and it dented the top (driver's seat) of his car. Very, very badly. I heard repairs are going to cost a bomb because evidently they don't have the roof for that car locally, and they can't just hammer the thing out, so they've got to send for it from overseas... Also, I don't think that the insurance is going to cover it, because... well, it wasn't an accident, or at least I don't think they'll take it as one. Well, insurance companies are supposed to try not to pay out on their policies =p (a la Mr Incredible's boss in The Incredibles). But of course I hope he gets the insurance people to cough up the cash (though I believe he can afford it =p) Anyway, all that practice was for what? Cos! Mus'art is... erm, took part in NBC, which is the National Band Competition. Some competition organised for the first time by I-forget-who in Singapore. Evidently, they're trying to bring up Singapore's international name in the music world or something, but then looking at the bands that competed... well, I don't think it's working very well... Maybe 20 or so years down the road some overseas bands will come win the top prizes; then it won't be just all local bands taking part... Anyway the competition was last Saturday, and we were the last band for the day, but the first band in the Open division. The rest of them played on Sunday. How come we're so extra? Cos Mus'art had a concert on Sunday! Tiring wor... But then I think it's pretty obvious in all the players, cos everyone sounded abit bleh... But anyway, I think I'll stay with them cos... The band's practice venus is right beside my house, then I don't have to carry so many things so far! Hehehe... And I can leave my house like when prac's supposed to start and still be earlier than like 10% of the band. But most importantly, cos the people there aren't a bunch of idiots, and the admin isn't all that terrible, and even the conductor... erm... conductress? Is pretty good. At least we generally sound decent. But it seems like a busy year ahead for Mus'art, wonder if I'll be able to cope with it and all my schoolwork.
Speaking of school, there're only like another 3 weeks of hols to go!! And my grades weren't very fantastic for the past 2 sems. It's time to buck up! I'll try to go for most, if not all my lectures this sem, and do my homework on time I hope, I don't want to have to struggle with all my work again like I did the past year. Oh, and I'm taking French 3... I heard it's pretty tough, and I didn't score very well for French 2, but... French is really fun. I love all my languages, Japanese (currently still doing my intermediate course) and French. I just hope I can cope, and get decent grades this sem... 頑張る! But speaking of languages, I'm thinking of taking a few more, maybe after I graduate... I'm hoping the job I find isn't too restricting, cos I really really want to learn a few more languages... Maybe German, Korean, Spanish... Mad right? Heh... We shall see how things go I suppose. But for now I think schoolwork comes first. I don't want to graduate without honours, or even worse, graduate later than everyone else...
After that very serious (quite ba?) paragraph, let me recount last night! Last night we (me, CZ, MM, HX, S) went for overnite KTV! Yayyyyy!!! Although MM and HX both had a sore throat, I think we managed to have quite a bit of fun; went through a lot of songs we wanted to sing, and some we just wanted to watch. We met up at 6.30 (ok fine, slightly later than that) for dinner at Yoshinoya, and then moved to Subway for round 2 cos i was still hungry. HX was quite a bit late cos some evil woman stole her mom's wallet, so she had to go to the police station with her. (HX hopes some lorry knocks that evil woman down btw, but I think it's a bad idea to get that lorry driver in trouble =p) Anyway, after that we all went up to the 8th floor, and we started our marathon. Midway, the staff asked us to play a game, 終極密碼, so we sent out... Serena! And she ended up winning against 6 other people too! But the prize like abit sad... Just a 許志安 cd, signed I think, but still not very fantastic. Oh well, not long after that I think Serena and MM KO-ed, leaving the 3 of us who continued till abt 4ish/5 when they both woke up and continued for like 2-3 more songs. Eventually we left before they chased us away because! The smoke was terrible... Idiots. I hope Singapore eventually pushes the price of cigarettes to like $20 a stick. We breathed so much smoke that I'm sure we're going to suffer lung damage lor... Horrible! It was all sticky and clammy and... stuff, and we all felt gross. After we left, we headed to Lido, the only 24 hour Macs nearby, but Serena wanted to go, so we waved goodbye to her before moving for breakfast. 2 Big Breakfasts, 1 Fillet O Fish, 1 Hotcakes. After that HX took the train back, and me, CZ and MM headed to take 106, and I eventually got home via 99 at Clementi. All in all a good outing, but I think overnight next time needs slightly more than 5 partly sick people. =p
The rest of this week promises to be fun... I'm looking forward to Thursday, and really, really looking forward to tomorrow... Why? Hehehehe ^^
I still need sleep... But more than that...
